Peanut and Roasted Gram Dal Chutney
Peanut roasted gram dal chutney is made with raw peanuts, roasted gram dal /pottukadala, onion and tamarind without adding coconut and goes well with idli and dosa.
The following ingredients are needed to prepare Peanut Roasted Gram Dal Chutney without Coconut.
Ingredients:-
Raw peanuts. -1/2 cup
Roasted gram dal.-1/4 cup
Urad dal. -1 tsp
Onion. -1
Garlic cloves. -4
Green chilly. -3-4
Curry leaves. -few
Tamarind.-a gooseberry size
Water. -as needed
Salt. -to taste
Oil. -1tbsp
Coriander leaves. -few
For Seasoning:
Urad dal. -1/2 tsp
Roasted gram dal.-1tbsp
Mustard seeds. -1 tsp
Dry red chillies. -1or 2
Shallots. -8
Curry leaves. -few
Coconut oil. -2 tsp
1). Heat 2 tbsp oil in a pan. Add 1tsp urad dal and saute well till light golden colour. Add garlic cloves and saute in oil. Add finely chopped onion and saute well until golden brown. Add slit green chillies and a few curry leaves and saute well.
2). Add raw peanuts and roasted gram dal (pottukadala) into the pan and saute well till peanuts become light golden colour.
3). Add tamarind and required salt and mix well. Once cooled grind all the ingredients in a mixer along with a few coriander leaves to a smooth paste adding 1/4 cup of water. Transfer the ground peanut roasted gram dal chutney to a bowl.
4). Heat 1tbsp oil in a wide bottom pan. Add 1/2 tsp urad dal and saute well. Splutter mustard seeds. Add 1tbsp roasted gram dal and saute well. Add dry red chilly broken pieces and few curry leaves into the pan and fry in oil for a few seconds. Add finely chopped shallots and saute in oil until golden brown.
5). Add the ground peanut roasted gram dal chutney into the pan. Add 1 cup of water into the pan and mix the ground chutney with the seasoning and make a thin consistency chutney
Peanut and Roasted Gram Dal Chutney is ready to serve with idli or dosa.
