PHOVU KALLEYLOLO / SATTA PHOVU / Godu Phovu / Sweet Poha

 
Poha /Flattened Rice is called Phovu in Konkani. Phovu Kalleylolo is a konkani dish - a sweet snack made with Poha..This sweet Poha is also known as Satta Phovu in Konkani. It is a simple poha desert mixed with Jaggery and Coconut grating.

Phovu Kalleylolo is a typical Kochi GSB  style sweet Poha snack mixed with Jaggery, Coconut grating, lentils and Cardamom powder adding Ghee and Sugar.

This Sweet Poha snack is mainly prepared during relegious festivals and occassions like Diwali, Tulsi Pooja, Sreekrishna Janmashtami, Cradle Ceremony, Wedding Engagement Ceremony and other religious functions in all Kochi GSB homes.This desert is distributed to all the relatives and neighbours after the Engagement Ceremony as an invitation for the comming wedding.

This sweet desert is also distributed to devotees in Temples as Prasad.

The following ingredients are needed to prepare this Sweet Poha desert.

Ingredients:-


Poha.                  -1/4 kg
Coconut grated. -3 cup
Jaggery.             -1/4 kg
Chana dal.         -2tbsp
Moong dal.       -1tbsp
Sesame seeds/WhiteTilu.-2tsp
Ghee.                             -1tbsp
Cardamom powder.-       1tsp
Sugar.                             -2tsp

Instruction :-


Dry roast Chana dal, Moong dal and whiteTil in a pan seperately on medium flame untill the dals changes to a golden colour and also nice aroma comes out.Keep aside.

Grate Coconut and dry roast for 1 minute. keep aside.

In a mixing bowl mix Coconut grating and poha, pressing a bit hard with your hands while mixing them.Mix them thoroughly for 10 minutes till soft. Keep aside

Grate or scrap Jaggery and keep aside.

In a pan add the grated Jaggery along with 1/4 cup water and boil till the Jaggery dissolves. Filter it to remove the impurities.

In the same pan boil the filtered Jaggery liquid.Stir on continuously until the Jaggery become thick and you get the melting Jaggery to a single thread like consistency.
Switch off the flame.

(To check the single thred like consistency of the jaggery syrup, touch a little syrup with your fore finger and press it in between your thump and fore finger and pull gently.you will see the syrup alongate into a single thread like consistency.)

Add the Coconut +Poha mixture to theJaggery syrup and stir continuously.

Add the roasted dals and the roasted white Sesame seeds and mix well with the mixture.

Add 1tbsp Ghee and mix well.

Add Cardamom powder and mix everything well.

Sprinkle 2tsp Sugar over it to garnish.

A Sweet Poha is ready to distribute your relatives, neighbours and friends after the function and also as Prasad after Pooja on auspecious days.
