KELYA SASSAM (Kochi GSB Konkani style Ripe Banana Raita).

Kelya Sassam is a traditional and delicious Kochi GSB Konkani style ripe Banana Raita usually served in important religious festivals and functions as one of the main side dish with Rice.

The following ingredients are needed for preparing the Kelya Sassam.

Ingredients:-

Small Banana. -5
Green chillies. -2
Sugar.              -3 tbsp
Salt.                 - a pinch
Curd.               -1/4 cup
Fresh Grapes.  -few[Black or Green]-optional
Pinapple.          -few [chopped]-optional


For Seasoning:-

Coconut oil.     -1tsp
Mustard seeds. -1/2 tsp
Cumin seeds.    -1/4tsp
Curry leaves.     -1spring


Instructions:-

Peel the skin and chop small banana into 4 lengthy pieces and then chop into small pieces and keep aside.

Wash and chop Green chillies into thin roundels and keep aside.

Method:-

In a mixing bowl add thinly chopped Green chilly roundels and required Salt.Mash both the ingredients with your hands.

Add Sugar and mix well with the mashed ingredients.

Add the chopped Banana pieces and mix well.[Can add chopped Pinapple peices and fresh Black or Green Grapes and mix with all the ingredients-optional]

Add  Curd and mix well with all the ingredients in the mixing bowl.

Heat oil in a pan for seasoning and splutter Mustard seeds and Cumin seeds and saute well. Add Curry leaves and saute well and switch off the flame.

Add the seasoning into the Kelya Sassam in the mixing bowl.

A yummy, little sweet, little sour, little hot Konkani style ripe Banana Raita/Kelya Sassam is ready to serve as a side dish with Rice.
