Koduve Humman (Konkani Recipe)


Koduve Humman is a Konkani recipe. A very tasty and spicy GSB Konkani style side dish made with Koduvi leaves.Koduvi is a small slightly bitter leaves known as Kaipa cheera in Malayalam and Koduvi Baje in Konkani.We can make varieties of Konkani dishes with Koduvi leaves like Koduve Ghassi, Koduve Dosa, Koduve Humman, Koduvi Vodi.A detailed recipe of Koduve Humman and step by step method with photos are given in this recipe.

The following ingredients are needed to prepare Koduvi Humman.

Ingredients:-

Koduvi leaves. - 1 cup tightly packed.
Salt.                 - to taste

For grinding the Red Chilly paste :-

Coconut oil.        -1/2tsp
Dry Red chillies. - 6
Mustatd seeds.   -1/2tsp
Methi seeds.       - 8 or 10 seeds
Tamarind.            - gooseberry size
Hing powder.       -1/2tsp

For Seasoning:-

Coconut oil.       -1tsp
Urad dal.           -1tsp
Mustard seeds. -1/2tsp
Curry leaves.     -1 spring

Instructions:-

1. Clean, wash and chop Koduvi leaves and keep aside.

2. Heat 1/2tsp Coconut oil in a pan and roast dry Red chillies and keep aside on a plate.In the same pan add Mustard seeds and Methi seeds and roast for a second. Add Hing powder and mix well.Transfer all the above roasted ingredients to the plate.

3. Grind the roasted Red chillies, Mustard seeds, Methi seeds and Hing powder along with Tamarind and required Salt to a smooth paste adding 2tbsp of water and keep aside the ground Red Chilly paste.

Method:-

1. In a small vessel add the ground Red Chilly paste and 1/4 cup of water and mix well.

2. Boil the Red Chilly paste on low flame.

3. Add the roughly chopped Koduvi leaves in the cooking vessel.

4. Mix the Koduvi leaves with the Red Chilly paste.

5. Boil the spicy mixture for 2 minute on low flame.

6. When the Koduvi leaves are cooked and become soft switch off the flame.

7. Heat Coconut oil in a pan on low flame for seasoning. Add Urad dal and saute well. Splutter Mustard seeds and saute well. Add Curry leaves and fry for a second and switch off the flame.

8. Pour the above seasoning into the Kodve Humman in the cooking vessel.

9. Transfer the Koduvi Humman to a serving bowl.

10. A tasty, delicious and spicy Koduvi Humman is ready to serve as a side dish with dosa, idli, sandan, appe and also with rice.
