Gova Sevai / Wheat Idiyappam


Wheat Idiyappam / Wheat flour Idiyappam is a popular and healthy breakfast dish in kerala.Wheat Idiyappam is known as Gova Shevai in Konkani and Gothambu Nool Puttu in Malayalam.A tasty, simple and easy to make recipe and step by step method with photos.

The following ingredients are needed to prepare Wheat Idiyappam / Gova Sevai.

Ingredients:-

Wheat flour.        -1cup
Rice flour.           - 1cup
Salt.                     -1tsp
Grated Coconut.  -1cup
Boiled Water.      -1 and 1/2 cup
Coconut oil.        -2tbsp

Instructions:-

1. Seive Wheat flour and Rice flour and keep aside. In a wide mixing bowl add both Wheat flour and Rice flour and mix well. Add Coconut oil into the flour mixture ni the mixing bowl and mix well.

2. Boil 1and 1/2 cup of water adding 1 and 1/2 tsp Salt and switch of the flame. Add required boiled hot Salt water little by little into flour mixture in the mixing bowl.Mix it properly with a spoon.(Donot pour the whole water together).

3. When little cooled mix well the flour mixture using your hands and make it a smooth dough.

4. Take a portion of the smooth dough and put it inside the Idiyappam press (maker) and close with its lid.


Method:-

1. Place 1tsp grated Coconut on each depression of the Idli plate.

2. Squeeze and spin the Idiyappam press (maker) in circular motion and fill each depression of the Idli plate with the dough strings.The dough inside the Idiyappam maker will fall like string (threads) over the Idli plate.

3. Make thin string like Idiyappam in rest of the Idli plate.

4. Place 1tsp Coconut gratings on the top of each Idiyappam strings on the Idli plates.

5. Then keep all the Idli plates on its stand.

6. Boil 2 cup of water in the pressure cooker. Place the Idli plate stand into the cooker vessel.

7. Close the cooker vessel with its lid and steam cook Idiyappam for 8 to 10 minutes on medium flame.


8. Switch off the flame and open the cooker lid.

9. Take out the Idli stand from the cooker vessel and allow to cool the steam cooked Idiyappam.

10. Remove the steam cooked Idiyappam form Idli plates using a spoon and transfer to a serving plate.


A tasty Wheat Flour Idiyappam / Gova Sevai is ready to serve with Chutney or sprinkle little Sugar over it while serving.
