Ambade Sasam


Ambade Sassam is a coconut and mustard based Konkani curry made with hog plums and goes well with steamed rice.Hog plum is called Ambade and Mustard seed is called Sasam in Konkani.

The following ingredients are needed to prepare this Ambade Sasam.

Ingredients:-

Hog plum (Ambade). - 2
Grated Coconut.         -1cup
Green chilly.               - 4
Mustard seeds.            -1tsp
Hing powder.              -1/2 tsp
Jaggery.                       - a small piece
Salt.                             - to taste

Instructions:-
 
1). Keep aside all the ingredients (Hog plums, grated Coconut, Green chillies, Mustard seeds, Hing powder, Jaggery and Salt) on a plate.

2). Wash and clean Hog plums (Ambade).Gently crush the Hog plums with mortar and pestle and keep aside.

3). Roast Green chillies in little oil on low flame and keep aside.

4). Dry roast Mustard seeds for a second on low flame and crush it using a rolling pin and keep aside.

4). Grate 1tsp Jaggery and keep aside.

5). Grind grated Coconut along with roasted Green chillies, Hing powder and grated Jaggery  to a smooth and medium thick paste adding very little water. Keep aside the ground Coconut Green chilly paste.


Method:-

1). In a cooking pan add crushed Hog plums (Ambade), required Salt and 3/4 cup of water and mix well.Boil and cook the Hog plums till soft and switch off the flame.


2). Add ground Coconut Green chilly paste and crushed Mustard seeds into the cooking vessel.

3). Mix the cooked Hog plum with the ground Coconut Green chilly paste and crushed Mustard seeds and do not boil. Ambade Sasam is ready to serve.


4). Transfer the Ambade Sasam to a serving bowl.

A very tasty Ambade Sasam is ready to serve as a side dish with rice.
