Ambadya Gassi / Hog plum Masala Curry


Ambadya Gassi /Ambadyachi Gashi is a Konkani style coconut based hog plum curry goes well with steamed rice.Hog plum is called Ambadi in Konkani. Ambadya Gassi recipe is explained with step by step method and photos. 

The following ingredients are needed to prepare Ambadya Gassi / Hog plum Masala Curry.

Ingredients:-

Hog plums (Ambade). - 4
Salt.                              - to taste

For grinding Coconut Masala paste :-

Grated Coconut.  -1 cup
Dry Red chillies.  - 5 or 6
Turmeric powder. -1/4tsp

For Seasoning:-

Coconut oil.     -1tsp
Urad dal.          - 1tsp
Mustard seeds. -1tsp

Instructions:-

1). Wash the 4 Hog plums (Ambade) in water.

2). Gently crush the Hog plums with a mortar and pestle and keep aside.

3). Grind grated Coconut, dry Red chillies and Turmeric powder to a smooth paste adding very little water. Keep aside the ground Coconut Masala paste.


Method:-

1). In a cooking pan add the crushed Hog plums (Ambade) and 1 cup of water.

2). Add required Salt into the pan and mix well.Boil the Hog plums till soft.

3). Add ground Coconut Masala paste to the cooked Hog plums in the pan. Add 1/2 cup of water and mix well. (Add 2tbsp of Tamarind juice into the curry if the Hog plums are not sour enough).

4). Mix well, boil and cook the Hog plum Masala curry for 2 minutes on low flame and switch off the flame.

5). Heat Coconut oil in a small pan for seasoning on low flame. Add Urad dal and saute well. When Urad dal starts to brown, splutter Mustard seeds and saute well and switch off the flame.


6). Pour the above seasoning into the Hog plum  masala curry in the cooking pan and mix well.

7). Transfer the Hog plum Masala Curry / Ambadya Gassi to a serving plate.

A very tasty  Ambadya Gassi /Ambadyache Gashi / Hog Plum Masala Curry is ready to serve with steamed rice.
