Onion Pachadi (Ulli Pachadi)


Onion Pachadi also known as Ulli Pachadi is a curd and coconut based delicious side dish made with Onion and goes well with rice.

The following ingredients are needed to prepare Onion Pachadi / Ulli Pachadi.

Ingredients:-

Onion. -2 medium size
Curd.   -1 cup
Salt.     - to taste

For grinding:-

Grated Coconut. -1 cup
Green chilly.       - 4 or 5
Ginger.                - a small piece
Curry leaves.       - 1 spring

For Seasoning:-

Coconut oil.        -2 tsp
Mustard seeds.    - 3/4 tsp
Dry Red chillies. -2
Curry leaves.       -1spring

Instructions:-

1). Peel, wash and chop onion into small pieces and keep aside.

2). Wash and chop green chillies into 2 halves and keep aside.

3). Peel, wash and chop ginger into small pieces and keep aside.

4). Broke dry red chillies into halves and keep aside.

5). Whisk the curd without lumps adding little water and keep aside.

Method:-

1). Grind grated coconut along with chopped green chillies, chopped ginger and curry leaves to a smooth paste.

2). Add whisked curd and required salt and grind again to a smooth paste.

3). Transfer the ground coconut curd mixture to a bowl.

4). Add chopped raw onion pieces into the bowl and mix with the ground mixture.

5). Add little boiled and cooled water into the ground mixture (pachadi) and mix well to make a consistency you like.

6). Heat coconut oil in a small pan for seasoning and splutter mustard seeds and saute well. Add broken dry red chilly pieces and curry leaves into the pan and fry in oil for a second and switch off the flame.

7). Pour the above seasoning into the Onion Pachadi in the bowl and mix well.

A tasty and delicious Onion Pachadi / Ulli Pachadi is ready to serve as a side dish with rice.
