BHENDA SASSAM / DAHI BHINDI/ DEEP FRIED LADIES FINGER IN CURD MASALA CURRY


Ladies Finger is called  Bhenda in Konkani.Bhenda is known as Okra in English.Bhenda is also called Bhindi.Bhenda Sassam is a Konkani  dish and is very popular in Kochi GSB Community.Deep fried Bhenda is mixed in Curd based Coconut Masala gravy.Bhenda Sassam is simple and delicious and easy to make. Bhenda Sassam is another version of  Bhenda Pachatti.

The following ingredients are needed to prepare Bhenda Sassam.

Ingredients:-


Ladies finger.[Bhenda]. -8
Rice flour.                      -5tbsp
Oil.                                 -for deep frying


For grinding the Coconut Masala Paste :-


Coconut grated.       -1/2cup
Dry Red chilly.        -5
Curd.                        -1cup
Water.                       -1 cup
Salt.                          -to taste


For Seasoning :-


Coconut oil   -1tsp
Mustard.        -1tsp.
Jeera.             -1tsp
Curry leaves. -1 spring


Instructions :-


1. Wash, and clean  raw Bhenda /Okra /Ladies finger. Pat dry the Bhenda with a clean cloth and chop into small roundels but not thin.Mix little Salt and keep aside for 2 minute.

2. Sprinkle the Rice flour over the chopped Bhenda roundels and mix well till all the chopped Bhenda roundels coated with the Rice flour.Keep  aside.


3. Heat Oil in a deep frying pan.Add the chopped Bhenda roundels coated with Rice flour into the hot Oil and deep fry the Bhenda roundels till crispy and keep aside.
Deep fried Bhenda /Okra coated with Rice flour. 
4. Grind the grated Coconut, dry Red chillies and Curd along with  boiled and cooled water to a smooth paste and keep aside the ground coconut masala paste.

Method-

1. Transfer the ground coconut masala paste in a vessel and mix with required Salt.Stir well and make a semi thick gravy.

2. Heat Coconut oil in a pan and splutter Mustard seeds.Add Jeera and few Curry leaves and fry for a second and switch off the flame.

3. Add the above seasoning  into the ground curd masala gravyy in the vessel and mix well.

4. Add the deep fried Bhenda roundels and mix with the curd curry in the vessel. [You can add the deep fried Bhenda  into the gravy just before serving.] 


A very tasty Bhenda Sassam / Dahi Bhindi / Deep fried Ladies finger in Curd  Masala Curry is ready to serve with hot steamed Rice or Plain Rice.
