MOONG TOMATO HUMMAN / Mugga Saru /Green gram Tomato Curry/ Tomato Green gram Curry

Green gram is called Mugu / Moong in Konkani.Humman or Saru in Konkani means little watery side dish.(flowing consistency)

Green gram is rich in protein and good for health. Green gram and Tomato is a classical combination and the most popular curry of Konkani cusine.The recipe is very simple and easy to prepare.Moong Tomato Humman goes well with Rice, Puttu, Idiyappam etc.



Mugga Saru with Idiyappam



The following ingredients are needed to prepare this delicious and healthy Humman/Saru.



Ingredients :-


Green gram.   -1 cup
Water.             - 4 cup
Green chillies. -2
Tomato.           -2medium
Salt.                 -to taste





For seasoning :-


Coconut oil /Oil. - 2tsp
Mustard seeds.  -1tsp
Dry Red chilly.    -1 broken into halves.
Curry leaves.      -1 spring.





Instructions :-


Wash and soak 1 cup Green gram for 6 hours in Water.
Pressure cook the soaked Green gram with 4 cups of Water for 2 whistles till soft and well cooked.Keep aside.

Half slit Green chillies lengthwise.keep aside.


Chope Tomatoes into square pieces.Keep aside.





Method :-


Transfer the cooked Green gram in a vessel with cooked Water and boil for 2 minues.
Add 2 half slit Green Chillies and required amount of Salt and mix well. Cover the vessel with a lid and boil for 5 minutes.

Add the chopped Tomato pieces and little more Water. Lower the flame.Cover the vessel with a lid and cook again for few minutes.Stir once in a while.

Add required Water to make the curry as a Saru consistency.
Boil the Mugga Saru /Moong Tomato Humman well and switch off the flame.

Heat 2tsp Coconut oil / Oil in a pan and splutter 1tsp Mustard seeds. Add 1 broken dry red chilly pieces and Curry leaves and saute well till the red chilly change its colour. Switch off the flame.

Pour this seasoning into the Moong Tomato Humman/Mugga Saru in the vessel.


A tasty yummy and delicious Moong Tomato Humman/ Mugga Saru is ready to serve hot with Rice, Puttu ,Idiyappam etc.
