VAINGAN & JEEVE MIRSANG CHIRDILLE /Mashed Brinjal with Green chilly / Brinjal & Green chillyl Gojju



Brinjal is called Vaingan, Chirdille means smashed and Jeeve Mirsang means Green chilly in Konkani
Vaingan & Jeeve Mirsang Chirdille is a Konkani dish.GSB people in Kochi  prepare this lip smacking Brinjal  Gojju. No Onion and no Garlic in this recipe.

Brinjal is boiled and cooked and mashed with Green chillies,Tamarind and Salt  and seasoned with Mustard and Curry leaves and lastly mix with Hing powder/Asafoetida to make a delicious and yummy side dish.No grinding is done in this recipe.Usually round and big Brinjal is used for preparing this side dish. You can use any  type of Brinjal  to prepare this dish.You can use any type of cooking oil for seasoning. this dish.But Coconut oil gives more flavour to the dish.This side dish is served as an accompaniment with Rice




The following ingredients are needed to prepare this Brinjal & Green chilly Gojju.



Ingredients:-


Brinjal.            - 2 (round & big)
Green chillies. - 4
Tamarind.        -a small lemon size
Salt.                 -to taste

Hing powder.  -1/2tsp



For seasoning:-

Coconut oil/Oil.  -1tsp
Mustard seeds. -1tsp
Curry leaves.     -1 spring




Instructions :-


Wash and chop 2  round and big Brinjals, each into 4 lengthy pieces and keep aside.

Chop 4 Green chillies into thin roundels and keep aside.

Soak a small lemon size Tamarind in little warm Water for 5 minut and extract Tamarind pulp.Keep aside.





Method:-

Boil the Brinjal pieces in a vessel adding required Water till cooked soft and mushy.

When cool remove the outer skin of the cooked Brinjal and mash it well with your fingers along with cooked and boiled Water in the same vessel.

In a small bowl add the chopped Green chilly roundels,1tsp Salt and the Tamarind Pulp and smash everything thoroughly with your fingers.

Transfer this hand mashed Green chilly Tamarind mixture in the vessel and mix with the mashed Brinjals.

Check for Salt and add if needed and mix well.

Heat Coconut Oil/or any cooking Oil in a pan and spluttter 1tsp Mustard seeds and saute well.


Add Curry leaves and fry for a second and switch off the flame.

Add this seasoning into the Mashed Brinjal/ Vaingan & Jeeve Mirsang Chirdilla in the vessel and mix everything well.


Lastly add Hing powder/Asafoetida and mix well.

A tasty, yummy  Vaingan & Jeeve Mirsang Chirdilla / Mashed Brinjal with Green chilly is ready to serve as a side dish with Rice.
