SURNA HUMMAAN (Yam Curry)-Konkani recipe



Yam is called Surnu in Konkani. Hummaan is a  konkani style liquid type gravy.
The following ingredients are needed to prepare Surna Hummaan.


Ingredients:-


Yam( Surnu).        - a small one
Salt.                      -to taste
Hing powder.         -1/2 tsp
Red chilly powder. -1tsp or dry Red chilly.  -2 broken into halves
Mustard seeds.      - 1tsp
Coconut oil.            -1 tsp



Instructions:-


Remove the mud and chop the outer skin of a small Yam.


Chop the Yam into small square pieces. wash thoroughly in Water two three times and keep aside.




Method:-

Heat Coconut oil or any cooking oil in a pan and splutter Mustard seeds and saute well.

Lower the flame and add Red chilly powder or broken dry Red chilly bits.


Add Hing powder and mix  well.

Add the chopped Yam pieces and saute well.

Add required Salt and Water. Mix well and boil for a minute.


Cover the pan with a lid and cook on medium flame till the Yam  pieces become soft and cooked Well and then  switch off the flame.

A tasty  konkani style Surna Hummaan /Yam Curry is ready to serve hot with Rice.
