Chena Ozichu Curry (Kerala style) / Yam Curry

Chena ozichu curry is a Kerala style Coconut based Yam Curry goes well with Rice.The  following ingredients are needed to prepare this Yam curry.


Ingredients:-

Yam.                     - 2 cup chopped
Tomato.                -3
Garlic flakes.       - 4
Shallots.                -6
Turmeric powder. - a pinch
Chilly powder.      -1tsp
Salt.                      - to taste




For grinding the Coconut paste:-


Coconut grated. -1/2 of a Coconut
Shallots.             -3


For Seasoning:-

Mustard seeds. -1tsp
Dry Red chilly. -2
Curry leaves.    -1spring
Cooking oil.      -1tsp


Instructions:-

Peel the outer skin and chop the Yam into small cubes. Wash the chopped Yam cubes and keep aside.

Wash and chop the Tomatoes into medium pieces and keep aside.

Peel, wash and roughly chop Shallots and keep aside.

Peel and crush the Garlic flakes and keep aside.

Pressure cook the chopped Yam, chopped Tomatoes, crushed Garlic, roughly chopped Shallots, Chilly powder, Turmeric powder, required Salt and 2 cups of Water [just to cover the chopped pieces] for 2 whistles or till soft. Keep aside.

Grind Coconut grating along with Shallots to a smooth paste and keep aside.


Method:-

In a cooking vessel transfer the pressure cooked ingredients and boil for 2 minutes.

Add the ground Coconut Shallot paste and mix well with the cooked pieces.Bring  it to boil for a minute and switch off the flame.

Heat oil in a small pan for seasoning and splutter Mustard seeds and saute well.

Add Red Chillies broken into halves and fry in oil  and saute well.

Add Curry leaves and fry for a second and switch of the flame.

Pour the seasoning into the Curry and close the vessel with a lid.

A delicious Kerala style Chena Ozichu Curry/ Yam Curry is ready to serve with Rice.
