Grated Raw Banana Stir fry is called Vazhakkai Podi in south India. Vazhakkai Podi is a healthy and spicy dish made with boiled and grated raw bananas and spice powders.This tasty side dish goes well with Rice.Adding Coconut oil gives a good taste and nice flavour to the dish.
The following ingredients are needed to prepare Vazhakkai Podi / Boiled Banana Powder.
Ingredients:-
Raw Banana. - 2
Salt. - to taste.
For Grinding the masala powder:-
Urad dal. -2tsp
Chana dal. -2tsp
Coriander seeds. -2tsp
Dry Red Chillies. - 6 [Kashmiri Red chillies]
For Seasoning:-
Coconut oil. - 2tsp
Mustard seeds. -1tsp
Curry leaves. -1spring
Hing powder. -1/2tsp
Instructions:-
Take 2 raw Bananas and chop into 2 halves with skin.
In a cooking vessel add the chopped raw Bananas with skin and add 1cup of water.Boil and cook the raw Bananas with skin till soft and firm but not mushy.When little cooled remove the outer skin of the boiled Banana pieces and grate the boiled Bananas using a grater with big holes and keep aside.
Dry roast Chana dal, Coriander seeds, Urad dal and Kashmiri Red chillies till nice aroma comes out and the Urad dal and Chana dal changes to golden colour. When cooled grind all the roasted ingredients together to a fine powder and keep aside
Method:-
Heat 1tsp Coconut oil in a pan on low flame and splutter Mustard seeds and saute well.
Add Hing powder and Curry leaves and stir well.
Add the ground spicy Masala powder and saute well.
Add the grated bananas into the pan and mix with the ground spicy Masala powder .Cook on low flame for 2 minutes. Stir in between.
Add required Salt in the pan and mix with all the ingredients.Cook for a minute on low flame and switch off the flame.
Pour 1tsp Coconut oil over the spicy Banana mixture and mix well. Coconut oil gives a good taste and nice flavour to the dish.
A tasty and delicious Vazhakkai Podi / Grated Raw Banana Stir fry is ready to serve with Rice.
