Kappa Puzhukku (Tapioca Puzhukku)


Kappa Puzhukku is a very tasty, boiled and mashed Tapioca Curry. Kappa Puzhukku can be served as a breakfast or as a side dish with rice.

The following ingredients are needed to prepare Kappa Puzhukku.

Ingredients:-

Tapioca.              -3/4 kg
Green chilly.        -1
Grated Coconut.   -1/4 cup
Shallots.                - 8
Turmeric powder. - 1/4tsp
Curry leaves.        -1spring
Mustard seeds.      -1tsp
Dry Red chillies.   - 2
Cumin seeds.         -1/2tsp
Coconut oil.           -1tbsp +1tsp
Salt.                        - to taste

Instructions:-

Peel the outer skin of the Tapioca. Wash well and chop into medium cubes. Wash again and keep aside.

In a vessel add the chopped Tapioca cubes along with water just to immerse the Tapioca pieces and boil for 2 minutes. Drain the water .

Again cook the Tapioca adding 1 and 1/2 cup of water, Turmeric powder and little Salt till the Tapioca pieces become soft.When cooled drain the excess water and mash the cooked Tapioca and keep aside.

Wash and half slit Green chillies lengthwise and keep aside.

Broke the dry Red chillies into small bits and keep aside.

Peel the skin, wash and finely chop the Shallots and keep aside.

Method:-

Heat Coconut oil in a pan and splutter Mustard seeds and Cumin seeds and saute well.

Add half slit Green chillies and broken dry Red chillies and fry in oil for a minute.

Add the finely chopped Shallots and a pinch of Salt and saute well till the Shallots become translucent.

Add Curry leaves and saute well.

Add the boiled and mashed Tapioca pieces and mix well. Switch off the flame.

Add grated Coconut and mix well.

Lastly add 1tsp Coconut oil over the curry and mix well.

A tasty Kappa Puzhukku is ready to serve as a breakfast or as a side dish with Rice.
