Horse gram is called Kulithu in Konkani. Kulitha Thambali Puddi is a tasty and delicious Horse gram Chutney Powder served with dosa, Idli, Appam or Rice.
The following ingredients are needed to prepare Kulitha Thambali Puddi / Horse gram Chutney Powder.
Ingredients:-
Horse gram / Kulithu. - 1/2 cup
Urad dal. - 2 tsp
Roasted gram. - 2 tsp ( Pottukadala)
Desiccated Coconut. - 3 tsp
Dry Red chilly. -7
Curry leaves. - 2 spring
Tamarind. - a marble size
Hing Powder. -1tp
Salt. - to taste
Jaggery grated. -1/4tsp
Oil. -1/4tsp
Instructions:-
Wash, clean and remove the stones from Horse gram and dry roast in a pan till it splutters and nice aroma comes. Switch off the flame and keep the roasted Horse gram to cool.
In the same pan dry roast Urad dal and Roasted gram together till the Urad dal changes to light brown and nice aroma comes.Keep aside.
In the same pan add 1/4 tsp Oil and roast the Red chillies on low flame, add desiccated Coconut and Curry leaves. Roast well till the Curry leaves become crisp. Add Tamarind and saute well. Add Hing powder and required Salt and mix well.
Method:-
Grind all the roasted ingredients (Horse gram, Urad dal, Roasted gram, Red chillies, desiccated Coconut, Curry leaves) along with Tamarind, Hing powder, Salt and grated Jaggery to a fine powder without adding water.
Transfer the ground Chutney powder to a bowl to cool.
