Banana stem is called Gabbo in Konkani.Gabbya Pathhal Sukke also known as Gabbya Olle Sukke is a Kochi GSB Konkani style tasty and delicious Banana stem curry goes well with rice.
The following ingredients are needed to prepare Gabbya Pathal Sukke /Banana Stem Curry.
Ingredients:-
Banana stem /Gabbo. - a small piece
Potato. - 1medium size
Tur dal. - 1/2 cup
Ambya sol. -2 dry mango pieces
Salt. - to taste
For grinding Coconut Masala paste:-
Grated Coconut. -1cup
Dry Red chillies. -3
Turmeric powder. -1/4 tsp
For Seasoning:-
Coconut oil -1tsp
Urad dal. -1tsp
Mustard seeds. -1tsp
The following ingredients are needed to prepare Gabbya Pathal Sukke /Banana Stem Curry.

Salt. - to taste
For grinding Coconut Masala paste:-
Grated Coconut. -1cup
Dry Red chillies. -3
Turmeric powder. -1/4 tsp
For Seasoning:-
Coconut oil -1tsp
Urad dal. -1tsp
Mustard seeds. -1tsp
Methi seeds. -10 seeds only
Instructions:-
Wash and pressure cook Tur dal adding 1/2 cup of water for 2 whistles and keep aside.
Wash and chop the Banana stem into thin round pieces. Remove the fibre and chop the Banana stem again into very small square pieces and keep aside.
Peel wash and chop Potato into very small square pieces and keep aside.
Grind grated Coconut, dry Red chillies and Turmeric powder to smooth paste adding very little water. Keep aside the ground Coconut Masala paste.
Method:-
In a wide bottom pan add the chopped Potato pieces, Banana stem pieces and 1/2 cup of water. Cover and cook the Potato and Banana stem pieces on low flame till soft.
Add required Salt and dry Mango pieces and mix well.
Add the ground Coconut Masala paste and mix well. Cover and cook for 2 minutes on low flame. Stir in between and switch off the flame.
Heat Coconut oil in a pan for seasoning and splutter Mustard seeds and Methi seeds. Saute well and switch off the flame.
Pour the above seasoning into the Banana stem Curry in the pan.
Transfer the Banana stem Curry to a serving bowl
A tasty and delicious Gabbya Pathhal Sukke /Banana Stem Curry is ready to serve with rice.
