Akki Roti (Rice Flour Roti)


Akki Roti (Rice Flour Roti) is a popular and healthy breakfast dish of Karnataka. Akki Rotti is a flat bread made with rice flour mixed with green chillies, onion and salt. Akki Roti is served warm with butter or chutney. Akki Roti (Rice Flour Roti) recipe is explained with step by step method and photos.

The following ingredients are needed to prepare Akki Roti / Rice Flour Roti.

Ingredients:-

Rice flour.        -1cup
Salt.                  - to taste
Water.               -1cup
Green chillies.  -2
Onion.               -1
Coconut oil.       -2 tsp

Instructions:-

1). Wash and chop Green chilles into thin round pieces and keep aside.

2). Peel, wash and finely chop Onion and keep aside.

Method:-

1). In a wide mixing bowl add Rice flour and Salt and mix well.

2). Boil 1cup of water in a small vessel.

3). Pour the boiling water into the mixing bowl little by little and mix with the Rice flour using a 
spoon.

4). Add finely chopped Onion and thinly chopped Green chilly pieces into the mixing bowl.

5). Mix all the ingredients and knead well using your hands and make a soft dough.

6). Make 3 or 4 equal sized balls of the dough.

7). Apply little oil on your palm and make the dough ball into round shape.

8). Grease a plastic sheet and place a dough ball on the plastic sheet.

9). Apply little oil on your fingers and pat the dough ball and flatten it evenly on the plastic sheet by gently pressing it with your fingers to form a thin round roti.


10). Make 3 - 4 holes on the patted roti using your finger.

11). Gently remove the patted roti from plastic sheet and keep it on your palm.

12). Heat a non stick tawa on medium flame.Place the patted roti on the heated tawa.

13). Add little oil in the holes made on the roti and roast the roti on medium flame.

14). Apply little oil on the top and around the edges of the roti and flip the roti 2 - 3 times with a flat spatula to roast evenly on both sides.

15). When the rice roti roasted well on both sides remove from hot tawa and transfer to a serving plate.


16). Repeat the same with rest of the dough balls. Serve the roasted Akki Roti / Rice Flour Roti warm with butter or coconut chutney of your choice.
