Patholi / Keli Panna Patholi / Vazhayila Ada is a traditional Konkani style sweet rice dumplings steamed on banana leaves. Patholi /Ada is made with rice flour dough filled with coconut jaggery mixture and steam cooked on banana leaf. Banana leaf is called Keli Paan in Konkani and Vazhayila in Malayalam.This sweet dish is served as a evening snack. The following ingredients are needed to prepare Patholi (Keli Panna Patholi) / Vazhayila Ada.
Ingredients:-
Rice flour. -1 cup
Boiling water. -1 and 1/2 cup
Salt. - a pinch
Coconut oil. -2tsp
Banana leaf. -1big
For Filling:-
Grated Coconut. -1cup
Grated Jaggery. -1/2 cup
Cardamom. -3
Instructions:-
1). Take a big Banana leaf and chop the Banana leaf into rectangle shaped few small pieces and keep aside.
2).In a mixing bowl add Rice flour. 1tsp Coconut oil and a pinch of Salt. Add 1 and 1/2 cup of boiling water little by little into the mixing bowl and mix well with a spoon. When little cooled knead well with your hands and make a soft dough.
The following ingredients are needed to prepare Patholi (Keli Panna Patholi) / Vazhayila Ada.
Ingredients:-
Rice flour. -1 cup
Boiling water. -1 and 1/2 cup
Salt. - a pinch
Coconut oil. -2tsp
Banana leaf. -1big
For Filling:-
Grated Coconut. -1cup
Grated Jaggery. -1/2 cup
Cardamom. -3
Instructions:-
1). Take a big Banana leaf and chop the Banana leaf into rectangle shaped few small pieces and keep aside.
2).In a mixing bowl add Rice flour. 1tsp Coconut oil and a pinch of Salt. Add 1 and 1/2 cup of boiling water little by little into the mixing bowl and mix well with a spoon. When little cooled knead well with your hands and make a soft dough.
3). Peel the Cardamom and crush well and make Cardamom powder.
4). Grate Jaggery with a knife and keep aside.
5). In a small bowl add grated Coconut, grated Jaggery and crushed Cardamom powder.Mix well all the ingredients together with your hands and make a Coconut Jaggery mixture for filling. Keep aside the Coconut Jaggery mixture..
Method:-
1). Take a choped rectangular piece of Banana leaf and spread little Coconut oil on the leaf using your fingers.
2). Keep a lemon size rice dough ball in the middle of the banana leaf.
5). Fold the Banana leaf on one side and gently press it.
6). Make similar rice dumplings (Patholi) on the chopped banana leaves with the remaining dough balls filled with Coconut Jaggery mixture.Place all the folded banana leaves with rice dumplings (Patholi) on a steamer plate.
7). Boil sufficient water in a steamer vessel.
8). Keep the steamer plate with folded banana leaves of rice dumpling (Patholi) on the steamer vessel.
9). Close the steamer vessel with lid and steam cook the Patholi for 10 to 12 minutes on high flame.
11). Place the Patholi steamed in banana leaf on a serving plate. Open the Banana leaf and serve the steamed sweet Patholi / Vazhayila Ada with a cup of tea or coffee.
12) Patholi steamed on Banana leaf / Vazhayila Ada is ready to serve as a evening snack.

6). Make similar rice dumplings (Patholi) on the chopped banana leaves with the remaining dough balls filled with Coconut Jaggery mixture. Place all the folded banana leaves with rice dumplings (Patholi) on a steamer plate.
7). Boil sufficient water in a steamer vessel.
8). Keep the steamer plate with folded banana leaves of rice dumplings (Patholi) on the steamer vessel.
9). Close the steamer plate with steamer lid and steam cook the rice dumplings (Patholi) for 10 to 12 minutes on high flame.
10). Open the steamer lid and remove the steamer plate from the steamer and allow the steamed Patholi to cool.
11). Place the Patholi steamed in banana leaf on a serving plate.Open the Banana leaf and serve the steamed sweet Patholi / Vazhayila Ada with a cup of tea or coffee.
