Magge Sasam / Mangalore Cucumber Mustard Curry


Magge Sasam / Mangalore Cucumber Mustard Curry (Mogge Sasam) is a curd and coconut based Konkani curry made with mangalore cucumber and crushed raw mustard seeds, goes well with rice.

The following ingredients are needed to prepare Magge Sasam / Mangalore Cucumber Mustard Curry / Mogge Sasam.

Ingredients:-

Mangalore Cucumber. -2 cup chopped
Mustard seeds.            -1tsp crushed
Curd.                           -1cup
Salt.                             -to taste

For grinding Coconut Green chilly paste:-

Grated Coconut. -1 cup
Green chillies.    -4

For Seasoning:-

Coconut oil.    -1tsp
Cumin seeds.  -1tsp
Curry leaves.  -1 spring

Instructions:-

1). Wash the Mangalore Cucumber (Magge/ Mogge) under running water and chop into two halves widthwise. Take one half of the Mangalore cucumber and remove the outer skin. Scoop out the seeds of the Mangalore cucumber using a small spoon and chop into medium pieces (about 2 cup) and keep aside. 

2). Wash Green chillies and grind along with freshly grated coconut to a fine paste adding very little water. Keep aside the ground Coconut Green chilly paste.


3). Whisk the Curd adding little water and keep aside.

4). Crush 1tsp raw Mustard seeds using a rolling pin and keep aside.

Method:-

1). In a cooking kadai add the chopped Mangalore Cucumber pieces, required Salt and 1 and 1/2 cup of water. Boil and cook on low flame till soft.


2). Add ground Coconut Green chilly paste into the cooking kadai and mix well with the cooked cucumber pieces. Boil and cook for a minute and switch off the flame. Allow the cucumber curry to cool.


3). Add whisked Curd and crushed raw Mustard seeds into the cooking kadai and mix well and do not boil.

4). Heat 1tsp Coconut oil in a small pan for seasoning. Splutter Cumin seeds and saute well. Add Curry leaves and fry in oil for a second and switch off the flame.


5). Pour the above seasoning into the cucumber mustard curry in the cooking kadai.


6). Transfer the Magge Sasam / Mangalore Cucumber Mustard Curry to a serving bowl.

Magge Sasam / Mogge Sasam/ Mangalore Cucumber Mustard Curry is ready to serve with rice.
