Kappe Ambat (Tapioca Curd Curry)


Kappe Ambat is a curd and coconut based Konkani curry made with Tapioca, goes well with rice. Tapioca (Cassava) is called Kappe in Konkani. A delicious Kappe Ambat recipe is explained with step by step method and photos.

The following ingredients are needed to prepare Kappe Ambat / Tapioca Curd Curry.

Ingredients:-

Tapioca (Kappe). -1/2 kg
Curd.                    -1cup
Salt.                      - to taste

For Grinding Coconut Red chilly Paste:-

Grated Coconut. -1cup
Dry Red chillies.  - 6
Coconut oil.         -1/4tsp (for roasting the chillies)

For Seasoning:-

Coconut oil.      -1tsp
Mustard seeds. -1tsp
Cumin seeds.    -1tsp
Curry leaves.     -1spring

Instructions:-

1). Cut the Tapioca / Cassava (Kappe) into big round pieces and remove the outer skin. Wash the Tapioca pieces thoroughly in water to remove the clay and dust. Chop the Tapioca pieces again into medium thick pieces. Wash the Tapioca pieces again in water. Boil the Tapioca pieces in a vessel adding sufficient water till soft. Drain water completely and keep aside the cooked Tapioca pieces.

2). Whisk the Curd adding little water without lumps and keep aside.


3). Heat 1/4 tsp Coconut oil in a small pan and roast Red chillies on low flame.Grind the roasted Red chillies along with grated Coconut to a smooth paste adding very little water. Keep aside the ground Coconut Red chilly paste.


Method:-

1). In a cooking pan add the cooked Tapioca pieces (Kappe), ground Coconut Red chilly paste and 1cup of water.

2). Add required Salt into the cooking pan and mix well.

3). Boil and cook for 3 minutes on low flame. Saute well in between. Switch off the flame and allow the Tapioca gravy to cool.


4). Add whisked Curd to the cooled Tapioca gravy in the cooking pan. Mix well and do not boil the curry.)



5). Heat 1tsp Coconut oil in a small pan for seasoning and splutter Mustard seeds and Cumin seeds. Add Curry leaves and saute well. Switch off the flame.


6). Pour the above seasoning into the Tapioca curd curry in the cooking pan and mix well.



7). Transfer the Kappe Ambat / Tapioca Curd Curry to a serving bowl.

A tasty Kappe Ambat / Tapioca Curd Curry is ready to serve with rice.
