Gabbya Tambidi Chutney


Gabbya Tambidi Chutney/Banana stem Red chilly Chutney is a very tasty banana stem chutney made with banana stem adding roasted red chillies, tamarind pulp and hing powder. Banana stem is called gabbo in Konkani. Gabbya Tambidi chutney is a delicious side dish that can be served with idli, dosa or with rice.

The following ingredients are needed to prepare Gabbya Tambidi Chutney.

Ingredients:-

Banana stem (Gabbo).- a small piece
Red chillies.                 - 4 (roasted)
Tamarind.                     - a gooseberry size
Hing powder.                - 1/2 tsp
Salt.                              - to taste

For Seasoning:-

Coconut oil.      - 1tsp
Mustard seeds. -1/2 tsp
Curry leaves.     -1 spring

Instructions:-

1). Wash a small piece of banana stem and chop into thin round pieces. Remove the net like fibre that appear in between the chopped banana stem thin roundels using your fingers. Chop the banana stem roundels into very small pieces and keep aside.

2). Roast dry red chillies in little oil till crisp and keep aside to cool.

3). Soak a gooseberry size tamarind in 3tbsp of warm water and extract tamarind pulp.

Method:-

1). Grind the chopped banana stem along with roasted red chillies, required salt, hing powder and extracted tamarind pulp to a fine paste.

2). Transfer the ground banana stem red chilly chutney to a serving bowl.

3). Heat coconut oil in a small pan for seasoning. Splutter mustard seeds and saute well. Add curry leaves and fry in oil for a second and switch off the flame.

4). Pour the above seasoning into the banana stem red chilly chutney in the serving bowl and mix well.

A tasty Gabbya Tambidi Chutney (Banana stem Red chilly Chutney) is ready to serve as a side dish with dosa, idli or rice.
