Thakkanthu Gallolo Gajjaro (Tamarind Seeds in Buttermilk)

Tamarind seeds are called gajjaro in Konkani.Roasted and peeled tamarind seeds soaked in butter milk (Thakkanthu gallolo  gajjaro in Konkani) is an age old recipe and is a popular time pass snack item in our childhood days.Tamarind seeds are very good for health and have many health benefits.Roasted tamarind seeds are rich in dietary fiber and helps in improving the digestive system.

The following ingredients are needed to prepare Thakkanthu Gallolo Gajjaro / Tamarind Seeds in Butter Milk.

Ingredients:-

Tamarind seeds (Gajjaro).      -1/2 cup
Buttermilk (Thaak)                 -1/2 cup
Hing powder.                           -1/4 tsp
Water.                                       -1/4 cup
Salt.                                          -1/2 tsp

Instructions:-

1). Wash tamarind seeds (gajjaro) in water and pat dry with a clean cloth.Dry roast the tamarind seeds in a small pan on medium flame for about 10 minutes and allow to cool.

2). Once cooled to room temperature, gently crush the roasted tamarind seeds to remove the outer hard skin and keep aside.

Method:-

1). In a small bowl or in a small glass bottle add buttermilk (thaak).

2) Add salt, hing powder and water into the bowl or glass bottle and mix with a spoon.

3). Add the roasted deskinned tamarind seeds into the buttermilk mixture in the bowl or glass bottle.

4). Mix all the ingredients in the bowl or glass bottle with a spoon.

5). Cover the bowl or glass bottle with a lid and keep aside to soak the roasted deskinned tamarind seeds in buttermilk mixture for one or 2 days.

6). Tamarind seeds soaked in buttermilk (Thakkanthu gallolo gajjaro) are ready to eat as a snack.
