Mulangi Ambat /Radish Ambat (Konkani Recipe)


Mulangi Ambat /Radish Ambat is a Konkani style coconut based radish curry made with white radish adding tur dal and onion, goes well with rice. Mulangi (Radish) is an edible root vegetable. Mulangi Ambat recipe is explained with step by step method and photos.

The following ingredients are needed to prepare Mulangi Ambat / Radish Ambat.

Ingredients:-

White Radish (Mulangi). -1 big
Tur dal.                             -1/2 cup
Onion.                               -1medium size
Salt.                                   - to taste

For grinding Coconut Masala Paste:-

Grated Coconut.   -1 cup
Dry Red chillies.  - 6
Turmeric powder. -1/4 tsp
Coriander seeds.   - 2 tsp
Tamarind.              - a gooseberry size

For Seasoning:-

Coconut oil. - 2 tsp
Onion.          -1(finely chopped)

Instructions:-

1). Remove the leaves and scrap the outer skin of white  radish. Wash the radish in water and chop into round little thin pieces. Peel, wash and chop onion into lengthy pieces.Wash and pressure cook tur dal along with chopped radish and chopped onion pieces adding water till soft and keep aside.


2). Heat little coconut oil in a pan and roast dry red chillies and keep aside. In the same pan roast coriander seeds.Grind grated coconut along with roasted red chillies, roasted coriander seeds, turmeric powder and tamarind to a smooth paste adding little water. Keep aside the ground coconut masala paste.


Method:-

1). In cooking vessel add the pressure cooked tur dal, radish, onion mixture. Mix well and boil for few minutes on low flame.


2). Add required salt into the cooking vessel and mix well with the cooked radish tur dal mixture.


3). Add ground coconut masala paste into the cooking vessel and mix with the radish tur dal mixture.Boil and cook for 5 minutes on low flame and switch off the flame.


4). Heat coconut oil in a small pan for seasoning and add finely chopped onion pieces and saute well till translucent and light brown in colour.

5). Switch off the flame and pour the above onion seasoning into the radish curry in the cooking vessel and close the vessel with a lid.

6). Transfer the delicious radish curry to a serving bowl.

A tasty and delicious Mulangi Ambat / Radish Ambat is ready to serve with rice.
