Yam is called Surnu and Curry is called Ramdayi in Konkani.Fried Yam Curry is called Thallel Surna Ramdayi. Fried Yam Curry is a side dish prepared with ground Coconut mix.Yam is called Chena in Malayalam.We can prepare lots of dishes with Yam.This recipe is simple and quick to prepare.
The following ingredients are needed to prepare this delicious recipe.
Ingredients:-
Yam. - a small piece
Oil. -for deep fying
For Grinding Coconut Masala paste:-
Coconut grated. -1cup
Green chilly. -2
Jeera /cumin seeds.-1tsp
Tamrind. -a marble size.
For Seasoning:-
Coconut oil/Oil. -2tsp
Mustard seeds. -1 tsp
Curry leaves. -1 spring
Hing powder .- 1/2tsp
Instructions:-
Clean, remove the mud and peel the skin of a small Yam/ Surnu and chop into big square cubes.Wash and apply Salt and keep it for 10 minutes.Then squeeze the Water and keep aside.Deep fry the Yam cubes in hot oil till brown and keep aside.
Grind 1cup grated Coconut, 2 Green chillies ,1tsp Jeera and a small marble size Tamarind to a smooth paste.Keep aside.
Method:-
Heat 2tsp Coconut oil/ Oil in a pan and splutter 1tsp Mustard seeds, add Curry leaves and fry for a second
Add Hing powder and mix well and then add fried Yam pieces and saute well.
Add the ground Coconut Masala paste and mix well. Boil for 5 minutes and switch off the flame.
Fried Yam Curry/Thellel Surna Ramdeyi/Chena Curry is ready to serve with Rice.
