Whole Bengal Gram is called Chono in Konkani and Kadala in Malayalam.Bengal gram is also called Kala chana or Chick peas.They are small, dark brown in colour and are rich in Protein..Kadala Curry is a very simple, easy and quick to make recipe of small Chick peas.
The following ingredients are needed to prepare this Kadala Curry.
Ingredients:-
Black Chana. -1 cup
Salt. -to taste
Coconut grating. -1/2 cup
For seasoning:-
Cooking oil. -2tsp
Mustard seeds. -1/2tsp
Dry Red chilly. - 2
Curry leaves. -1 spring
Instructions:-
Wash and soak Black Chana over night or for 8 hours.
Pressure cook the soaked Chana for 3 whistles or till soft and keep aside.
Broke the dry red chillies into halwes and keep aside.
Method:-
Heat Oil in a pan and splutter 1tsp Mustard seeds.
Add the broken dry Red chillies and Curry leaves. Saute well and fry for a second.
Add the cooked Chana and saute well.
Add salt and mix well.
Cover the pan with a lid and cook for 2 minutes.Saute in between.
Add 1/2 cup grated Coconut and mix well till the Coconut grating mix with the cooked Chana.Switch off the flame.
A simple and tasty Kadala Curry is ready to serve.
