TIKHAT DAAL/ Spicy, tangy mixed Dal Curry

TIKHAT DAAL is a spicy mixed daal curry which is little tangy to taste.The recipe is simple and easy to prepare. This delicious daal curry goes well with hot steamed Rice, Roti, Chapathi, Phulka etc.

The following ingredients are needed to prepare this delicious Daal recipe.

Ingredients:-

Tur dal.                      - 1 cup
Masoor Dal.               -1/4 cup
Moong daal.               -1/4 cup
Oil.                              -1tsp
Green chilly.                -2
Dry Red chilly.             -1
Curry leaves.               -1 spring
Coriander leaves.        -1 bunch
Jaggery crushed.         -1 tbsp
Tamarind.                     - a small piece
Red chilly powder.        -1tbsp
Coriander powder.        -1tsp
Turmeric powder.          -1/4 tsp
Sambar powder.            -1tsp
Hing powder.                 -1tsp
Ghee/ Oil.                      -3 tsp
Mustard seeds.              -1/2 tsp
Cumin seeds/Jeera.       -1/2 tsp
Fenugreek/Methi seeds. -1/4 tsp
Salt.                                -to taste



Instructions:-


Wash and soak Tur dal, Masoor dal and Moong dal for 20 minutes.

Pressure cook all the soaked dals together adding required Water, a pinch of Turmeric powder, 2  half slit Green chillies lengthwise and little Oil till soft but not mushy.Keep aside.

Soak a small piece of Tamarind in hot Water and extract Tamarind juice and keep aside.

Wash and finely chop 2 Tomatoes and keep aside.

Crush a small piece of Jaggery and keep aside.

Wash and finely chop Coriander leaves and keep aside.




Method:-

Heat 3tsp Ghee/ Oil in a pan and splutter Mustard seeds and Cumin seeds and saute well.

Add Methi seeds, dry Red chilly, Curry leaves  and fry for a second.

Add finely chopped Tomatoes and saute well on low flame till mushy.

Add Tamarind juice and mix well.

Add Coriander powder, Red chilly powder, Turmeric powder, Sambar powder and Hing powder and mix well on low flame.

Add pressure cooked Tur dal, Masoor dal and Moong dal along with required Water and boil on low flame.

Add required Salt and mix well.

Add the crushed Jaggery and mix everything well and boil for few minutes and switch off the flame.

Add finely chopped Coriander leaves over the mixed dal Curry.


The consistency of the Mixed daal curry is slightly thicker than normal daal curry.

A yummy and delicious Tikhat daal/Spicy and tangy mixed dal curry is ready to serve.

Serve the Mixed Daal Curry hot with hot steamed Rice, Roti, Chapathi or Phulka.
