Ambya Sassam (Konkani recipe)/ Half ripen Mango Coconut Mustard Chutney.


Ambya Sassam is a Konkani recipe.Ambya Sassam is a Mango chutney made with ground paste of Coconut grating, Mango pieces, roasted Red chillies,little Tamarind and Mustard seeds..You can add little grated Jaggery in this recipe while grinding the chutney.Store this Ambya sassam / Mango chutney in the refrigerator, will lasts for few more days.

The following ingredients are needed to prepare Ambya Sassam.

Ingredients:-
Half rippen Mango. -1 medium size( firm)
Coconut grating.       -1 cup
Red chillies.              -5
Mustard seeds.          - 3/4 tsp
Tamarind.                  - a chick pea size.
Jaggery.                     -1tsp grated.[optional]
Salt.                           -to taste


Instructions:-

Wash a medium size, firm and half ripen Mango.Chop the Mango and discard the seed. Chop into small cubes with skin.

Keep few chopped Mango cubes seperately on a plate.

Dry roast Mustard seeds for a second and crush it in between Chapathi board and rollin pin to get a smooth Mustard pieces.

Roast Red Chillies in little oil and keep aside.

Method:-

Grind the chopped Mango cubes, freshly grated Coconut, roasted red chillies, Mustard seeds, little Salt and a small piece of Tamarind to a smooth Chutney like paste.

Transfer the ground Mango paste in a serving bowl.

Add the seperately kept chopped Mango cubes and mix well with the mango mustard chutney paste.

Add grated Jaggery and  nicely mix everything with a spoon[optional]

A tasty Ambya Sassam is ready to serve as a side dish with Rice, Dosa, Idli etc.
