Chono Tomato Ghassi is a very tasty coconut based masala gravy made with Chick peas. The following ingredients are needed to prepare Chono & Tomato Ghassi.
Ingredients:-
Bengal gram (Chono).-1 cup
Salt. -to taste
For grinding the Coconut Tomato Masala paste:-
Grated Coconut. -1 cup
Urad dal. -1 and 1/2 tbsp
Coriander seeds. -3 tbsp
Dry Red chillies. -5
Tomato. -3
For Seasoning:-
Coconut oil. -1 tbsp
Mustard seeds. -1tsp
Curry leaves. -1spring

Instructions:-
1). Wash and soak 1cup whole Bengal gram (Chono) in water for 8 hours.Pressure cook the soaked Bengal gram adding 1 cup of water for 5 whistles on medium flame or till soft and keep aside.
2). Heat little Coconut oil in a pan and roast on low flame Urad dal, Red chillies, Coriander seeds and grated Coconut till Coconut gratings become golden brown.Keep aside on a plate to cool.Add chopped Tomatoes into the pan and saute well till the Tomatoes become mushy.
3). When cooled grind all the roasted ingredients along with mashed Tomatoes together to a smooth paste. Keep aside the ground Coconut Tomato Masala paste.
Method:-
1). Heat Coconut oil in a wide bottom pan and splutter Mustard seeds and saute well.Add Curry leaves and fry for a second.
2). Add cooked Bengal gram (Chono) into the pan and saute well.
3). Add required salt and 1cup of water into the pan and mix well.Boil and cook for 2 minutes on low flame.
4). Add the ground Coconut Tomato Masala paste into the pan and mix with the cooked Bengal gram and stir well.The consistency of the gravy is semi thick.Add more or less water to get the required consistency.Mix well and boil for 3 minutes on low flame and then switch off the flame.
5). Transfer the Chono & Tomato Ghassi to a serving bowl.
A tasty Chono & Tomato Ghassi s ready to serve hot with plain rice, dosa or idli.
