Potato is called Kuk and Piyavu is called Onion in Konkani.Kuk Piyava Ghassi is a Konkani style Coconut Masala Curry goes well as a side dish with Rice.
The following ingredients are needed to prepare this delicious Coconut Masala Curry.
Ingredients: -
Turdal. -1/4cup
Potato. -1 big
Onion. -1medium size
Ginger - a small piece
Salt. - to taste.
For grinding the Coconut Masala paste:-
Coconut grated. - 1/2 cup
Dry Red chillies. - 4
Coriander seeds. - 1/4tsp
Tamarind. - a small piece
Instructions:-
Peel and chop the Onion into thin lengthy pieces and keep aside
Peel and chop a big Potato into medium lengthy pieces. Wash and keep aside.
Wash Tur dal in Water and keep aside.
Pressure cook the washed Tur dal and chopped Potato pieces together with 2 cup of Water for 3 whistles and keep aside.
Peel, wash and chop a small Ginger into thin lengthy pieces and keep aside.
Roast the dry Red chilies and Coriander seeds in little oil and keep aside.
Grind together the grated Coconut along with roasted Red chillies ,roasted Coriander seeds and tamarind to a smooth paste and keep aside.
Method:-
In a cooking vessel add the chopped Onion pieces and chopped Ginger pieces and add 1cup of Water. Boil and cook for 2 minutes.
Add the cooked Tur dal and cooked Potato pieces along with cooked Water and mix well.
Add required Salt and mix well. Boil and cook for few minutes.
Add the ground Coconut Masala paste and mix well and boil for few minutes and switch of the flame.
The consistency of the gravy is semi thick.
Pour 1tsp Coconut oil over the Curry in the vessel.
