Dali & Ghosale Thoy (Konkani recipe)


Ridge gourd is called Ghosale in Konkani. Dali & Ghosale Thoy is a Konkani style side dish made with Tur dal and Ridge gourd and this tasty side dish goes well with Rice.

The following ingredients are needed for preparing Dali & Ghosale Thoy.

Ingredients:-

Ridge gourd.        -2 big
Tur dal.                 -3/4 cup
Turmeric powder. -1/4 tsp
Ghee.                    -1 tsp
Green chilly.         -2
Salt.                      -to taste

For Seasoning:-

Oil.                          -1tsp
Mustard seeds.        -1tsp
Dry Red chilly        -1 broken into halves.
Curry leaves.           -1spring

Instructions:-

Wash and half slit Green chillies lengthwise and keep aside.

Wash and pressure cook Tur dal adding Turmeric powder, half slit Green chillies, 1tsp Ghee and 2 cup of Water for 1 whistle and keep aside.

Peel and remove the hard outer skin of the Ridge gourd .Wash and chop into medium thick pieces and keep aside.

Method:-

In a cooking vessel add the chopped Ridge gourd pieces and 1cup of water and boil till the Ridge gourd pieces become soft.

Transfer the cooked Tur dal along with cooked Green chillies and water into the cooking vessel and mix with the cooked Ridge gourd pieces.

Add Salt and mix well.Boil for 2 minutes and switch off the flame.

Heat oil in a small pan for seasoning and splutter Mustard seeds and saute well.
Add broken dry Red chilly and Curry leaves and saute well and fry for a second. Switch-off the flame.

Add the above seasoning into the Curry in the  cooking vessel.

A very tasty and delicious side dish, Dali & Ghosale Thoy is ready to serve with Rice.
