Tapioca is called Kappe in Kochi Konkani and Kappa in Malayalam.Kappa Curry is a very tasty and delicious Coconut masala based Tapioca Curry served as a side dish with Rice.
The following ingredients are needed for the preparing the recipe.
Ingredients:-
Tapioca. - 2cup chopped
White Peas. -1/2 cup (or Green peas)
Dharambe sol - a very small piece.(Kudam puli)
Salt. - to taste.
For grinding the Coconut Masala :-
Coconut grating. -1cup
Dry Red chillies. - 6 or 8
Turmeric powder. - a pinch
For Seasoning:-
Coconut oil. -1tsp
Urad dal. -1tsp
Mustard seeds. -1tsp
Fenugreek (Methi). -10 seeds only
Instructions:-
1). Peel the outer skin and chop Tapioca into small cubes. Wash the chopped Tapioca cubes in water and keep aside.
2). Grind Coconut grating along with dry Red chillies and Turmeric powder to a smooth paste adding very little water. Keep aside the ground Coconut Masala paste..
Method:-
1). In a cooking vessel add 2 cup of Water and boil well.Add the chopped Tapioca cubes into the cooking vessel. Boil and cook till the Tapioca pieces become soft.
2). Add required Salt and a small piece of Dharambe sol (Kudumpuli) or add a small piece of dry Mango.Mix and boil well with the cooked Tapioca cubes.
3). Add ground Coconut Masala paste. Mix well and boil for 2 minute on low flame.
4). Add required water to make the Curry to a semi thick consistency.The Curry will thicken when it cools.So add water according to the consistency and boil on low flame.Switch off the flame.
5). Heat Coconut oil in a small pan for seasoning. Add Urad dal and splutter Mustard seeds and saute well.Add Fenugreek (Methi seeds) and fry for a second and switch off the flame.
6). Add the above seasoning into the Tapioca Curry in the vessel and mix well.
A very tasty and delicious Tapioca Masala Curry/ Kappa Curry is ready to serve with Rice.
