Soft Idli with Idli Rava [Rice Rava]

Idli is a traditional breakfast in south India.Idli is a round shape soft rice cake usually made with Idli Rice.We can also make soft Idli using Rice Rava. Rice rava is also known as Idli Rava.

The following ingredients are needed for preparing Idli with Rice Rava/ Idli Rava.

Ingredients:-

Whole white Urad dal.   -1 cup
Fenugreek seeds(Methi).-10 seeds
Idli Rava (Rice Rava).    -3 cup
Poha.                               -3/4 cup
Salt.                                 -1tsp or to taste.

Instructions:-

Wash and soak 1cup whole white Urad dal and 10 Methi seeds together in water for 4 hours.

Wash and soak Rice Rava (Idli Rava) in Water for 20 minutes.

Wash and soak 3/4 cup Poha in water for 15 minutes before grinding.

Drain the water and grind the soaked Urad dal and Methi seeds together to a fine fluffy paste adding very little soaked Water.Keep the batter in a large vessel.

Grind the soaked Poha adding 1tbsp of soaked and squeezed Rice Rava( Idli Rava) to a smooth paste without adding water.Transfer the batter to the large vessel and mix with the Urad dal batter.

Completely squeeze water from the soaked Idli Rava using hand and add it into the large vessel and mix well with Urad dal Poha batter in the  large vessel.

Keep the batter to ferment for about 8 to 12 hours in warm place.

Method:-

After fermentation add 1tsp Salt into the batter and mix well.Idly batter is ready to steam.

Grease the Idli moulds with oil and pour the Idli batter into each of the Idli mould and fill the moulds.

Add Water into the steamer or pressure cooker and put the Idli moulds inside the steamer or pressure cooker and close the lid and steam cook for 12 minutes.

[ Do not put the wait of the Pressure cooker if the idli is steaming in the Pressure cooker.]

Remove the Idli moulds from the steamer and allow to cool the steamed Idlis.

Once it cools demould the Idlis with a spoon.

Very soft Idlis made with Idli Rava is ready to serve.

Serve the soft Idllis hot with Sambar or Coconut Chutney or with Tomato Curry or with any spicy side dish.
