CHANE SARU / CHONYA THOY

Chane Saru (Chonya Thoy) is a Konkani style thin Chickpea gravy.Water from cooked Chickpeas is used to make thin Saru .The consistency of the Chane Saaru is just like soup. Chane Saru / Chonya Thoy is  very simple to prepare and this tasty Saru goes well with Rice.

The following ingredients are needed to prepare Chonya Thoy/Chane Saaru.

Ingredients:-

Chickpea.        -1/4 cup
Water.               -2 cup

Dry Red chilly. -1
Black Pepper.   -1 tsp
Curry leaves.    -1 spring
Mustard seeds. -1 tsp
Cumin seeds.    -1/2 tsp
Hing powder.    -1/4 tsp
Salt.                  -to taste.

Coconut oil.      -1tsp

Instructions:-

Wash and soak Chickpea /Black Chana in Water for 8 hours or overnight.

Pressure cook the soaked Chickpea adding 2 or 3cup of water for 3 whistles or till soft on medium flame.Keep aside.

Crush Black Pepper and keep aside.

Broke one dry Red chilly into 2 halves and keep aside.

Method:-

Heat Coconut oil in a pan and splutter Mustard seeds and saute well.

Add dry Red chilly broken into halves and fry wel in oil.

Add crushed Pepper, Cumin seeds and Curry leaves and saute well till the Curry leaves become crispy.

Add  the cooked Chickpeas into the pan along with cooked water and boil for 2 minutes.

Add required Salt and Hing powder into the gravy in the pan and mix well. Boil well for 5 minutes and switch off the flame.


Transfer the Chonya Thoy/ Chane Saru to a serving bowl.

A tasty Konkani style Chonya Thoy/ Chane Saru is ready to serve with plain Rice.
