Moong Dal Sambar is a healthy and delicious Sambar made with split yellow Moong Dal adding Green chilly and Tomato.
The following ingredients are needed to prepare Moong Dal Sambar.
Ingredients:-
Split yellow Moong dal. -1cup
Tomato. -2medium size
Green chilly. -3
Turmeric powder. -a pinch
Tamarind. - a small piece.
Salt. -to taste
For Sambar powder mixture:-
Sambar powder. -2 tbsp
Hing powder. -1/2tsp
Water. - little
For Seasoning:-
Mustard Seeds. -1tsp
Cumin seeds. -1/2 tsp
Curry leaves. -1spring
Oil. -1tsp
Instructions:-
Take a small bowl and soak the Tamarind piece in little hot Water for 5 minutes.Squeeze and make Tamarind water.Keep aside.
Mix Sambar powder and Hing powder in a small bowl adding little Water and keep aside the mixture.
Wash and pressure cook split yellow Moong dal along with 3 half slit Green chillies, a pinch of Turmeric powder and 2 cup of Water for 3 whistles or till soft and keep aside.
Wash and chop Tomatoes and keep aside.
Method:-
In a cooking vessel add the chopped Tomato pieces and 2 cup of Water. Boil and cook the Tomatoes till soft and mushy
Add the pressure cooked split yellow Moong dal and mix well.
Add required Salt and Tamarind water and mix well.
Add Sambar powder+ Hing powder mixture from the bowl and mix well.Add water to adjust the consistency of the Sambar and boil for 2 minutes and switch off the flame.
Heat a small pan for seasoning and add Mustard seeds and saute well.
When the Mustard seeds starts to splutter add Cumin seeds and saute well.
Add Curry leaves and fry for a second and switch off the flame.
Add the above seasoning into the Sambar in the cooking vessel and mix well and close the vessel with a lid.
Moong Dal Sambar is ready to serve with Rice, Dosa or Idli.
