Kooka Gassi/ Potato Ghassi (Konkani Recipe)


Potato is called Kook in Konkani.Kooka Gassi/ Potato Ghassi is a Konkani style roasted Coconut Masala curry adding Toor dal and Potato.

The following ingredients are needed to prepare Kooka Gassi / Potato Gassi..

Ingredients:-

Toor dal.          -1 cup
Potato.             - 4 medium size
Dharambe sol. - a small piece (kudampuli)
Salt.                 -to taste

For grinding the roasted Coconut Masala paste:-

Grated Coconut.   -1cup
Urad dal.             -1tbsp
Coriander seeds.  -1tbsp
Red chillies.         -8
Turmeric powder. -1/4tsp

Instructions:-

1). Peel the outer skin and wash the Potatoes. Chop into big cubes and keep aside.

2). Wash and Pressure cook Toor dal along with chopped Potato cubes and 2 cup of water for 2 whistles and keep aside.

3). Heat a pan on low flame and dry roast Urad dal, Red chillies, Coriander seeds and Coconut gratings till Coconut gratings become golden brown colour. Allow the roasted ingredients to cool.When cooled add Turmeric powder and mix well. 


4). Grind  all the roasted ingredients together to a fine paste till oil seperates.Keep aside the ground Coconiut Masala paste.

Method:-

1). In a cooking vessel add the cooked Potato cubes and Toor dal along with 2 cup of Water and boil for 2 minutes on low flame.

2). Add required Salt and Dha rambe sol into the vessel and mix well.Boil and cook for 2 minutes on low flame.

3). Add ground Coconut Masala paste and mix well with the cooked Potato cubes and Tur dal.Add required Water to make the Curry to a gravy consistency and boil for 3 minutes on low flame.Mix well and switch off the flame.ing plate.


4). Transfer the Kooka Gassi / Potato Ghassi to a serving bowl.

A tasty and delicious Kooka Gassi/ Potato Ghassi is ready to serve with rice.
