Semiya Upma / Simple Vermicelli Upma


Semiya Upma is a simple,quick and easy to make breakfast dish of south India made from Suji Vermicelli. Semiya Upma also known as Vermicelli Upma is a healthy and tasty breakfast goes well with a cup of hot tea or coffee. 


 The following ingredients are needed to prepare Semiya Upma / Simple Vermicelli Upma.

Ingredients:-

Semiya [Vermicelli]. -1cup
Ghee.                         -1tsp
Oil.                             -1tbsp
Urad dal.                    -1tsp
Mustard seeds.           -1tsp
Green chilly.               - 4
Curry leaves.              -1spring
Onion.                        -1 medium size
Water.                         - 4 cup
Salt.                            -to taste
Grated Coconut.         -2 tbsp [optiona

Instructions:-

Peel, wash and chop Onion into thin lengthy pieces and keep aside.

Wash and half slit Green chillies lengthwise and keep aside.


Method:-

Heat 1tsp Ghee in a pan and roast 1cup Semiya [Vermicelli] till light brown and keep aside.

Heat 1tbsp Oil in the same pan and add Urad dal and saute well and splutter Mustard seeds.

Add half slit Green chillies and few Curry leaves and fry in oil for a second.

Add finely chopped Onion and saute well till the Onion becomes translucent.

Add 4 cup of water and required Salt. Mix well and boil the water.

Add the roasted Semiya [Vermicelli] into the boiled water and saute well till the water evaporates and absorbs the Semiya [Vermicelli] on low flame..

Cover the pan with a lid and cook for one minute.

Add grated Coconut and mix well and switch off the flame. 

A very tasty Semiya Upma/ / Simple Vermicelli Upma is ready to serve with hot tea or Coffee.
