Papaya is called Pappayphal in Konkani. Pappayphala Ambat is a Kochi GSB Konkani style very tasty and delicious raw Papaya Curry cooked with Tur dal and ground Coconut masala paste and goes well with Rice.
The following ingredients are needed to prepare Pappayphala Ambat.
Ingredients:-
Tur dal. -1 cup
Raw Papaya. -1medium size
Darmbya Sol. -a small piece of Kudampuli.
Salt. -to taste

For grinding the Coconut Masala paste:-
Grated Coconut. -1cup
Dry Red chillies. -3
Turmeric powder. -1/4tsp
For Seasoning:-
Coconut oil -1tsp
Mustard seeds. -1tsp
Cumin seeds/ Jeera. -1/2tsp
Curry leaves. -1spring
Instructions:-
Wash and pressure cook Tur dal adding 2 cup of Water for 3 whistles and keep aside.
Peel the outer skin of the raw Papaya.Chop into halves lengthwise and remove the seeds. Wash in water and chop the Raw Papaya into small cubes and keep aside.
Grind the grated Coconut along with dry Red Chillies and Turmeric powder to a fine paste and keep aside.
Method:-
In a cooking vessel add the chopped Papaya cubes and 1cup of water and cook on low flame till the Papaya pieces become soft.
Add required Salt and a small piece of Darmbya Sol and mix well.
Add the cooked Tur dal along with water and mix with the cooked Papaya cubes. Boil on low flame.
Add the ground Coconut Masala Paste into the cooking vessel. Mix well and boil on low flame for 2 minutes and switch off the flame.
The consistency of the gravy is semi thick and add water according to the consistency of the gravy.
Heat Coconut oil in a pan on low flame and splutter Mustard seeds and Cumin seeds and saute well.Add Curry leaves and fry well. Switch off the flame.
Pour the above seasoning into the Ambat in the cooking vessel.
A tasty and delicious Kochi GSB Konkani style Pappayphala Ambat is ready to serve with Rice.
