Putani Chutney Powder (Roasted gram Chutney Powder)


Putani Chutney Powder is a very tasty spice powder made with roasted gram / Putani dal also known as Pottukadala along with skin removed Peanuts, Red chillies, Hing powder, Jaggery , Curry leaves, Tamarind and Salt. A very tasty Chutney Powder that can be served with Dosa, Idli and also with Rice.

The following ingredients are needed to prepare Putani Chutney Powder/ Roasted Gram Chutney Powder.

Ingredients:-

Putani dal.           -1 cup (Roasted Gram)
Peanut.                -1/4 cup (skin removed)
Hing powder.      -1tsp
Dry Red chillies. -3
Curry leaves.       - 1spring
Tamarind.            - a marble size
Jaggery.               -1/2tsp [grated]
Salt.                     - to taste

Instructions:-

In a pan dry roast Putani dal [Roasted gram / Pottukadala] and skin removed Peanuts for 1 minute on low flame. Add Curry leaves and Tamarind in the pan and fry well till the Curry leaves become dry and keep aside.

In the same pan add 1/2tsp oil and fry the Red chillies till crisp on low flame and keep aside.

Method:-

Grind all the roasted ingredients (Putani dal, Coriander seeds, Peanuts, roasted Red chillies and Curry leaves) along with Hing powder, grated Jaggery and required Salt to a fine powder. Allow the ground Chutney powder to cool.

Transfer the ground Chutney Powder to a bowl.


Chutney Powder is ready to serve as a side dish with Dosa, Idli and also with Rice.

Add a little oil on the Putani Chutney powder while serving with Dosa or Idli.

Store the Putani Chutney Powder in a clean and air tight container.
