Alva Mande Pulichikeri / Colocasia Root Curd Curry


Colocasia root is called Alva mande in Konkani. Alva Mande Pulichikeri is a Konkani style curd based colocasia root curry goes well as a side dish with rice.

The following ingredients are needed to preparea Alva Mande Pulichikeri / Colocasia root Curd Curry.

Ingredients:-

Colocasia root/ Alva Mande. - 8
Curd.                                      -1cup
Salt.                                        - to taste

For grinding the Coconut Masala paste:-

Grated Coconut.    -1cup
Dry Red chillies.   - 5
Turmeric powder.  -1/4 tsp

For Seasoning:-

Oil. -2tsp
Mustard seeds. -1/2tsp
Cumin seeds.    -1/2tsp
Curry leaves.    -1spring.

Instructions:-

Colocasia root /Alva Mande

1.  Peel the outer skin, wash and chop the Colocasia roots (Alva Mande) into medium cubes and keep aside.

2. Grind grated Coconut, dry Red chillies and Turmeric powder to a smooth paste adding very little water and keep aside.

3. Whisk the Curd and keep aside.

Method:-

1. In a cooking vessel add the chopped Colocasia roots and 2 cup of water. Boil and cook till the Colocasia pieces become soft on low flame.

2. Add the ground Coconut Masala paste and mix well.

3. Add required Salt and mix well.

4. Add the whisked Curd and mix with the cooked Colocasia roots and boil. When the bubbles begins to appear on the sides of the vessel and the curry starts to boil switch off the flame.

5. Heat oil in a pan for seasoning. Splutter Mustatd seeds and Cumin seeds and saute well.Add Curry leaves and fry well.Switch off the flame.

6. Pour the above seasoning into the curry in the cooking vessel.

7. Transfer the Curry to a serving bowl.

A tasty Alva Mande Pulichikeri / Colocasia Root Curd Curry is ready to serve as a side dish with Rice.
