Sopoor Kooka Ghassi (Chinese Potato Coconut Masala Curry)


Chinese Potato is called Sopoor Kook in Konkani. Sopoor Kooka Ghassi is a coconut based masala curry made with Chinese Potato and Drumstick.

The following ingredients are needed to prepare Sopoor Kooka Ghassi (Chinese Potato Coconut Masala Curry).

Ingredients:-

Chinese Potato. -15
Drumstick.        -2
Darmbya sol.    - a very small piece (Kudampuli)
Salt.                  -to taste

For grinding Coconut Masala Paste:-

Grated Coconut.  -1cup
Dry Red chillies.  - 6
Turmeric powder. - 1/4 tsp

For Seasoning:-

Coconut oil.     -1tsp
Urad dal.          -1/2tsp
Mustard seeds. -1/2tsp

Instructions:-

Peel the outer skin of the Chinese Potato / Sopoor Kook with a knife and wash and clean thoroughly in water.Chop the Chinese Potato into small pieces and wash again in water and keep aside.

Peel the outer skin of the Drumsticks and chop into 1 and 1/2 inch lengthy pieces and keep aside.

Grind grated Coconut, dry Red chillies and Turmeric powder to a smooth paste adding very little water and keep aside.

Method:-

In a cooking vessel add the chopped Chinese Potato pieces, chopped Drumstick pieces and 2 cup of water.Boil and cook the Chinese Potato pieces and Drumstick pieces till soft.

Add required Salt and add a very small piece of Darmbya sol (Kudam Puli) and mix well.Boil for 2 minutes on low flame.[You can add a small piece of dry mango [Ambya sol] instead of Kudam puli  [Darmbya sol].

Add ground Coconut Masala paste into the cooking vessel and mix with the cooked pieces. Cook for 5 minutes on low flame and switch off the flame.

Heat oil in a pan for seasoning and add Urad dal and saute well.Splutter Mustard seeds and saute well. switch off the flame.

Pour the above seasoning over the curry in the cooking vessel.

Transfer the curry to a serving bowl.

A tasty and delicious Sopoor Kooka Ghassi /Chinese Potato Coconut Masala Curry is ready to serve with Rice.
