Urad Dal Bonda


Urad Dal Bonda also known as Ulundu Bonda is a tasty, healthy and crispy deep fried tea time snack made with whole white urad dal along with rice flour and other spices.

The following ingredients are needed to prepare Urada Dal Bonda.

Ingredients:-

Whole white Urad dal. -1 cup
Rice flour.                    -1tbsp
Green chilly.                 - 4
Whole Black Pepper.    -1tsp
Shallots.                        - 4
Water.                            - 3 or 4 tbsp
Salt.                                - to taste

Instructions:-

Wash whole white Urad dal and soak in enough water for 4 hours.

Drain the water completely and wet grind the soaked Urad dal to a smooth paste adding 3 or 4tbsp of water.The consistency of the Urad batter should be thick.(Other wise it will soak oil while frying).

Crush the whole Black Pepper roughly with mortar and pestle and keep aside.

Wash and chop Green chillies into thin round pieces and keep aside.

Peel, wash and finely chop Shallots and keep aside.

Method:-

Transfer the ground Urad dal batter to a wide mixing bowl.

Add Rice flour, thinly chopped Green chilly pieces, finely chopped Shallots, crushed Black Pepper, and required Salt into the mixing bowl.Mix well all the above ingredients with the ground Urad dal batter in the mixing bowl.

Heat oil in a deep frying pan on medium flame.

When the oil is hot, wet your fingers with water (to avoid sticking the batter) and take a small portion of the ground Urad batter from the bowl.Gently drop the batter little by little into the hot oil.

Keep the heat on medium flame and deep fry the bondas till they turns crispy and golden colour on both sides.

Flip the bondas in between on medium flame to fry evenly on all sides. [Do not fry on high flame.Else outside portion of the bonda will become brown too quickly and inner portion remains uncooked.]

Remove the deep fried Urad dal bonda from hot oil with a slotted spoon and transfer to a bowl on a kitchen towel to drain excess oil.

Crispy and hot Urad Dal Bonda is ready to serve.


Serve the tasty and healthy Urad Dal Bonda with Coconut Chutney.
