Jackfruit seed is called Bikkand in Konkani. Bikkand Song /Bikkanda Saung is a Konkani style coconut based spicy Jackfruit seed curry made with Jackfruit seeds and Onion.A delicious side dish goes well with rice, chapathi, Phulkas, paratha etc.Simple and easy to make recipe and step by step method with photos.
The following ingredients are needed to prepare Bikkanda Song / Spicy Jackfruit Seeds Curry.
Ingredients:-
Bikkand / Jackfruit seeds. - 10 or 15
Onion. -2medium size
Coconut oil. - 2tsp + 1/4tsp
Salt. -to taste
For ground Coconut paste:-
Grated Coconut. -1 cup
Coriander seeds. - 1tbsp
Methi seeds. -10 or 12 seeds [fenugreek seeds]
Dry Red chillies.- 6 or 7
Tamarind. -a small piece
Instructions:-
1. Peel the outer white skin of the Jackfruit seeds and put them in water for 6 hours or overnight to remove the brown outer skin.Scrap the outer brown skin of the Jackfruit seeds and chop each Jackfruit seed into 2 lengthy pieces.Drain the soaked water and wash the Jackfruit seeds.Pressure cook the chopped Jackfruit seeds for 2 whistles or till soft adding required water. Keep aside the cooked Jackfruit seeds.

5. Peel, wash and finely chop Onion and keep aside.
Method:-
1. Heat 2tsp Coconut oil in a pan and add the finely chopped Onion pieces and saute well.

2. Add little Salt and mix with the Onion pieces.Saute well till the Onion becomes translucent and slight brown in colour.
3. Add cooked Jackfruit seeds into the pan.
4. Add little water and mix the cooked Jackfruit seed pieces with the Onion pieces.
5. Add ground Coconut paste into the pan.
6. Check for Salt and add required Salt and mix well. (Little Salt is already added along with Onion).
7. Saute well on low flame till the Curry becomes semi thick. Switch off the flame.
8. Transfer the Bikkanda Song/ Spicy Jackfruit seeds Curry to a serving bowl.
A tasty Bikkanda Song /Spicy Jackfruit Seeds Curry is ready to serve as a side dish with rice, chapathi, phulkas, paratha etc.
BIKKANDA SONG /SPICY JACKFRUIT SEEDS CURRY RECIPE
