Spicy Potato Curry is a Konkani style Batata Song made with potatoes and onion cooked in spicy coconut masala paste and goes well as a side dish with Rice, Chapathi, Roti, Puri, Naan, Patatha, plain Bread etc. A simple and easy to make recipe with step by step method and photos.
The following ingredients are needed to prepare Spicy Potato Curry / Batata Song
Ingredients:-
Potato. -2 medium size
Salt. - to taste
Coriander leaves. -few
For grinding the Coconut Masala paste:-
Grated Coconut. - 3/4 cup
Dry Red chillies. - 6
Coriander seeds. - 1tbsp
Fenugreek seeds (Methi). -10 or 12 seeds.
Tamarind. - a marble size
For Seasoning:-
Coconut oil. -1tsp
Onion. -1 medium size
Instructions:-
1). Peel, wash and chop the Potatoes into medium small pieces. Pressure cook the chopped Potato pieces adding 1cup of water for 2 whistles.Keep aside the boiled Potato pieces.
2). Peel, wash and finely chop Onion and keep aside.

Dry Red chillies. - 6
Coriander seeds. - 1tbsp
Fenugreek seeds (Methi). -10 or 12 seeds.

Onion. -1 medium size
Instructions:-
1). Peel, wash and chop the Potatoes into medium small pieces. Pressure cook the chopped Potato pieces adding 1cup of water for 2 whistles.Keep aside the boiled Potato pieces.
2). Peel, wash and finely chop Onion and keep aside.
3). Heat a pan and dry roast Coriander seeds and Fenugreek seeds. Keep aside.
4). In a small vessel boil the dry Red chillies adding little water till soft and keep aside.
5). Grind the grated Coconut, roasted Coriander seeds, roasted Fenugreek seeds, boiled Red chillies and Tamarind to a smooth paste adding very little water. Keep aside the ground Coconut Masala paste.
Method:-
1). Heat Coconut oil in a pan and add finey chopped Onion.Add Salt and mix well.
4). Mix the boiled Potato pieces with the Onion pieces and saute well.
5). Add ground Coconut Masala paste into the pan.
6). Add 1/4 cup of water and mix well. Check for Salt and add little Salt if needed. Boil and cook for 5 minutes on low flame and stir in between.
7). When the gravy become semi thick, stir well and switch of the flame and remove the Pan from flame.
8). Garnish the spicy Potato curry with few Coriander leaves.
9). Transfer the spicy Potato curry to a serving bowl.
10). A very tasty and delicious Spicy Potato Curry / Batata Song is ready to serve hot as a side dish with Rice, Chapathi, Puri, Naan, plain Bread, Phulkas etc.
