The following ingredients are needed to prepare Green Tomato Curry/ Pachathakali Curry.
Ingredients:-
Green tomato. - 4 or 5
Green chillies. - 2
Salt. - to taste
Curry leaves. -1sprig
For grinding Coconut Masala Paste:-
Grated coconut. - 1 cup
Cumin seeds. - 1/2 tsp
Shallots. - 2
Turmeric powder. - 1/4 tsp
For Seasoning:-
Mustard seeds.-1tsp
Shallots. -4
Curry leaves. -1sprig
Coconut oil. -1tbsp
Dry red chilly. -1 broken into halves
Instructions:-
1).
Wash and chop green tomatoes into small pieces, wash and slit green
chillies, peel and chop shallots into small pieces. Keep aside the
above ingredients on a plate along with curry leaves.
2). Grind
grated coconut along with cumin seeds, shallots and turmeric powder to a
smooth paste adding 2tbsp of water. Keep aside the ground coconut
masala paste.
Method:-
1). In a cooking vessel add chopped
green tomato pieces, slit green chillies, curry leaves, required salt and 1/2 cup of water and mix well. Cover and
cook green tomato pieces on medium flame till soft.
2). Add ground coconut masala paste and 1cup of water into the pan and mix well.
3).
Boil and cook the curry for 2 minutes on low flame till raw smell of the ground
masala goes out.If the curry is thick add little more water. Boil well and switch off the flame.
4). Heat coconut oil in a small pan for seasoning. Splutter mustard seeds. Add broken dry chilly halves into the pan and saute in oil. Add chopped shallots and curry leaves into the pan and saute well till shallot becomes little golden brown. Switch off the flame.
5). Pour the above mustard shallot seasoning into the green tomato curry in the vessel and cover the vessel with a lid for 2 minutes.
6). Open the lid and mix the green tomato curry with the aromatic mustard shallot seasoning.
7). Transfer the very tasty Green Tomato Curry/ Pachathakali Curry to a serving bowl and serve with rice.
