Green peas is called Attano and Yam is called Surnu in Konkani. Green peas & Yam Curry is a favourite Konkani dish. The combination of Green peas and Elephant Yam and the Onion seasoning makes the recipe more tasty and yummy and delicious.The recipe is simple and easy to prepare with few ingredients.
The following ingredients are needed to prepare this delicious Curry.
Ingredients:-
Dry Green peas. -1 cup
Yam. -a small
For grinding Coconut Masala paste:-
Coconut grated. -1 cup
Roasted Red chilly. - 6 or 8
Tamarind. - a goose berry size.
For Seasoning:-
Coconut oil/Oil. -2tsp
Onion. -1 medium size
Instructions :-
Wash and soak dry Green peas/ Attano in Water for 8 hours or overnight.
Clean, remove the mud, peel the outer skin and chop a small Yam/ Surnu into small Square cubes. Wash and keep aside.
Pressure cook the soaked Green peas along with chopped Yam pieces adding required Water and little Salt and cook till soft.Keep aside.
Finely chop Onions and keep aside.
Soak Tamarind in little warm water and keep aside.
Roast dry Red chillies in little Oil and keep aside.
Grind the grated Coconut with roasted Red chillies and soaked Tamarind to a smooth paste adding little Water and keep aside.
Method:-
In a cooking vessel add the cooked Green peas and cooked Yam pieces and boil well for 2 minutes.
Check Salt and if required add and mix well.
Add the ground Coconut Masala paste to this cooked Green peas and Yam pieces.Mix well and boil again for 2 minute on low flame and switch off the flame.
Heat Coconut oil in a pan and add the finely chopped Onion and saute well.Fry the chopped Onion in the oil till golden colour and switch off the flame.
Pour this seasoning into the Green peas & Yam Curry in the cooking vessel.
A tasty yummy Green pea s& Yam Curry / Attano &Surnu Ambat is ready to serve with hot Rice.
