Tambidi sukke Chawli Upkari (Konkani recipe)/Red Cow peas[Red Gram] Stir Fry

Red Cow peas/ Red gram is called Tambidi sukke Chawli in Konkani. Tambidi sukke Chawli Upkari is a popular Konkani style stir fry.The recipe is very simple quick and easy to make with few ingredients and goes well with Rice,Chapathi etc.

The following ingredients are needed to prepare Tambidi sukke Chawli Upkari / Red Cow peas Stir Fry.

Ingredients:-


Red Cow peas (Chawli). -1 cup
Salt.                                 -to taste.


For Seasoning:-


Cooking oil.      -2 tsp
Mustard seeds. -1 tsp
Green chillies.   -3 or Dry Red chillies. -2
Pepper Powder  - 1/4 tsp
Curry leaves.      -1spring



Instructions:-

Wash the Red Cow peas /Tambidi sukke Chawli / Red gram in water two three times to remove the dust.

Soak Red Cow peas/ Red gram in water for 6 hours.Soaking helps to make the Red Cow peas / Red gram soft.

Pressure cook the soaked Red Cow peas for 3 Whistles adding 2 cup of Water and required Salt or till cooked but not mushy.Drain water and keep aside the cooked Red Cow peas.

Wash and half slit Green Chillies lengthwise and keep aside.



Method:-


Heat 2tsp cooking oil in a pan and splutter Mustard seeds and saute well.

Add half slit Green chillies and saute well and fry for a second.or add two broken dry Red chillies and saute well.

Add a pinch of [about 1/4tsp] Pepper powder into the pan and saute well.

Add the pressure cooked Red cow peas without water and saute well.

Check for Salt and add little Salt if needed.

Cover the pan with a lid and cook the Red Cow peas for a minute or till the water evaporates and saute in between. Mix everything well and switch off the flame.

A tasty Tambidi  sukke Chawli Upkari / Red Cow peas Stir fry is ready to serve as a side dish with Rice , Chapathi, Kanji (Rice gruels) etc.
