KELYA SALLI SUKKE ( Konkani Recipe)

Banana skin is called Kelya Sali in Konkani.Kelya Salli Sukke is a very tasty and delicious Konkani style coconut based dry masala curry using raw Nendran Banana skin.Kerala Bananas are called Nendran Bananas.

The following ingredients are needed to prepare Kelya Salli Sukke.

Raw Banana skin.          - from 4 raw Nendran Bananas (raw Kerala Bananas).
Sun dried mango piece. - a small piece
Salt .                               -to taste

For grinding the dry Coconut Masala:-

Grated Coconut.  -1 cup
Dry Red chilly.     -1tsp
Turmeric powder. - 1/4tsp



For Seasoning:-

Cooking oil.       -1tsp
Urad dal.           -1tsp
Mustard seeds. -1tsp



Instructions:-


1.Take the raw Nendran Bananas[Kerala Banana]. Chop and remove both the ends of the raw Nendran Bananas and wash well..




2. Peel the outer skin of each raw Bananas lengthwise with a knife and keep aside the raw Nendran banana skins.



3. Again peel the thin outer layer of the raw Nendran Banana skin and finely chop the raw banana skin of the Nendran Bananas and keep aside.


4. Grind the grated Coconut, dry Red Chillies and Turmeric powder to a smooth paste without adding water.Keep aside the ground Coconut Masala paste.



Method:-

1. Heat oil in a pan on medium flame.

2. Add Urad dal and saute well.Then splutter Mustard seeds and saute well.

3. Add the finely chopped raw Banana Skin and saute well.

4. Add required Salt, a small piece of sun dried Mango and little Water and mix well. Cook the raw Banana skin till soft.

5. Add the dry ground Coconut Masala paste and mix well with the cooked raw Banana Skin.Cook for 2 minutes on low flame and saute in between and Switch off the flame.

A tasty Kelya Salli Sukke  is ready to serve hot as a side dish with Rice.
