Batata Humman is a very tasty and delicious coconut based Mangalorean Konkani style gravy dish made with Potato and Tomato. Batata Humman goes well with Rice.
The following ingredients are needed to prepare Batata Humman / Potato and Tomato in Coconut Gravy.
Ingredients:-
Potato. - 2 medium size
Tomato. - 2 medium size
Hing powder. -1/2tsp
Salt. -to taste
For grinding the Coconut Masala paste,:-
Grated Coconut. -1 cup
Red chillies. - 5
Tamarind. -a Gooseberry size
For Seasoning :-
Coconut oil . -2tsp
Instructions:-
1. Wash peel and chop the Potatoes into medium cubes and pressure cook adding little water for 1 whistle and keep aside.
2. Wash and chop Tomatoes into big pieces and keep aside.
3. Heat little oil in a pan and roast Red chillies. Keep aside the roasted Red chillies, grated Coconut, Tamarind and Hing powder.
6. Grind the grated Coconut along with roasted Red chillies and Tamarind to a smooth paste.Keep aside the ground Coconut Masala paste.
Method:-
1. In a wide bottom pan add the cooked Potatoes, chopped Tomatoes and 1cup of water. Boil and cook for 3 minutes on low flame.
2. Add the ground Coconut Masala paste and mix well.
3. Add required Salt and Hing powder .
4. Add 1cup of Water and mix well. Boil and cook for 5 minutes on low flame.Saute well and switch off the flame.
5. Pour 2tsp Coconut oil over the Curry in the wide bottom pan and mix well.
6. A tasty and delicious Batata Humman / Potato and Tomato in Coconut gravy is ready to serve with Rice.
