The following ingredients are needed to prepare Cabbage Chana Dal Upkari.
Ingredients:-
Cabbage (shredded) - 2 cup
Chana dal (split Bengal gram). - 3/4cup
Coconut (grated). - 1/4cup
Coriander leaves. - a bunch
Sugar. - a pinch
Salt. - to taste.
For Seasoning:-
Coconut oil. -2tsp
Mustard seeds. -1tsp
Green chillies. - 3
Hing powder. - 1/2tsp
Turmeric powder. -1/4 tsp
Curry leaves. -1spring
Instructions:-
1. Wash and soak Chana dal (split Bengal gram) in water overnight and keep aside.
2. Wash the Cabbage and then chop into narrow strips.Keep aside the shredded Cabbage.
3. Wash and slit Green Chillies into lengthy halves and keep aside.
4. Keep aside Mustard seeds, slit Green Chillies, Curry leaves, chopped Coriander leaves, Hing powder, Turmeric powder and a pinch of Sugar.
Method:-
1. Heat oil in a pan on low flame and splutter Mustard seeds.Add split Green chillies and saute well.Add Curry leaves, Hing powder and Turmeric powder. Saute well.
2. Add the soaked Chana dal and mix well with the seasonings.
3. Add 1cup of Water and boil well.
4. Cover the pan with a lid and cook the Chana dal till soft on low flame and saute well.
5. Add the shredded Cabbage and mix well with the cooked Chana dal.
6. Add required Salt, a pinch of Sugar and mix well.
7. Sprinkle little water. Cover and cook on low flame till the Cabbage is cooked. Stir in between and switch off the flame.
8.Add grated Coconut and mix well.
9.Garnish the Cabbage Chana Dal Upkari with finely chopped Coriander leaves.
10. A very tasty and delicious Cabbage Chana dal Upkari is ready to serve as side dish with Rice, Chapathi etc.
